About Lottie's Mission

Lottie's Mission is to raise awareness about the prevalence in our society of a particularly heinous form of animal abuse - bestiality. Most people are unaware that this occurs or are under the mistaken impression that it is a weird but harmless act performed in farmyards in rural America. The act is neither harmless nor rare, occurring throughout the world in cities, suburbs, and farm yards. It is through awareness that more states pass laws criminalizing bestiality and that witnesses report bestiality. These are some important things to know about bestiality:

• Sexual assault on animals is not only non-consensual, the animal frequently suffers internal injury/death.
• Sexually assaulted animals who survive physically are more difficult to rehabilitate emotionally than victims of other abuse; euthanasia is commonly necessary.
• Perpetrators of animal sexual assault, known as zoophiles, frequent online forums to meet with local zoophiles and share animals at parties. 
• When surveyed, zoophiles reported knowing an average of 90 other zoophiles.
• Zoophiles frequent Craigslist looking for people rehoming dogs; others post ads on Craigslist offering dog walking or other services in order to access animals.
• Professionals in law enforcement and the veterinary sciences are often unfamiliar with the signs of bestiality.
